This group is designed for children in Grades 1–6 who would benefit from building friendships, developing communication and teamwork skills, based on shared interests in a relaxed, supportive environment.
Guided by a Speech Pathologist and Therapy Assistant, each session blends fun, interest-based activities with social skill development. Visual supports and neuroaffirming strategies will be used throughout to ensure every child feels included, confident, and safe to be themselves.
Activities will be inspired by popular music, creative crafting, baking, storytelling, and character-themed adventures (think: Taylor Swift eras, K-Pop Demon Hunters, mystery quests, and art and craft), offering a welcoming space for children who enjoy imaginative, expressive, and collaborative activities.
What we’ll be doing:
🎤 Pop Culture Chats & Shared Interests
Target: conversation skills, perspective-taking, and turn-taking.
We’ll explore favourite songs, characters, and stories (e.g., Taylor Swift eras, K-Pop Demon Hunters, TV shows) while practising how to ask questions, share ideas, and build on others’ contributions during group discussion.
🧁 Bake & Talk
Target: sequencing, following instructions, and cooperative communication.
Working together to follow a simple recipe, take turns with roles, and use clear language to plan, negotiate, and check understanding with peers.
🎨 Creative Crafting & Design
Target: descriptive language, problem-solving together, and flexible thinking.
Making themed crafts such as posters, character cards, or friendship bracelets while practising explaining choices, requesting materials, giving compliments, and collaborating.
🪄 Group Challenges & Story Quests
Target: collaboration, negotiation, and shared goal-setting.
Small group problem-solving tasks inspired by popular themes (e.g., treasure hunt clues, character missions, or “design your hero” challenges) where participants work together, discuss strategies, and make decisions as a team.
💬 Circle Time Sharing & Reflection
Target: emotional vocabulary, self-advocacy, and clear communication.
Sharing highlights from the session, expressing preferences, listening to others, and practising communication that is confident, respectful, and supportive.
Every activity is thoughtfully designed to provide natural opportunities for children to practise key social communication skills, including initiating and maintaining conversations, expressing needs and feelings, collaborating with peers, and navigating group dynamics.
Our holiday group offers a supportive and inclusive environment where children can connect with others, try new experiences, and grow their communication skills - all while having a great time.
