This holiday group is designed for children who would benefit from early learning support, building social connections, and exploring the world through their senses.
Whether they are squishing Playdough, splashing in water, squeezing sand, listening to a story, or going on a bush scavenger hunt, children learn best through hands-on, playful experiences that are both fun and meaningful. These activities do more than just entertain; they support thinking and problem-solving, encourage language development, help children learn to regulate their emotions, strengthen social skills, and develop both fine and gross motor coordination.
To ensure every child feels included and confident, we use visual schedules and neuroaffirming strategies that promote predictability, flexibility, and a sense of safety. The group is run by a Speech Pathologist and the support of a Speech Pathology Therapy Assistant, ensuring activities are both fun and purposeful.
Over the sessions, children might:
🍪 Cook and bake together – making simple treats like fruit kebabs, muffins, or biscuits while practising following instructions, taking turns, and sharing materials.
📚 Shared story time – listening to stories, exploring pictures, and talking about characters and events to support vocabulary growth, joint attention, and early narrative skills.
🧸 Pretend play and storytelling – running a toy shop, acting out favourite stories, or using puppets to practise turn-taking, imaginative thinking, and early conversation skills.
🧩 Sensory and cooperative play – working with playdough, building with blocks, creating group artworks, or making bush art using natural materials to practise sharing, asking for help, and regulating emotions.
🍃 Outdoor adventures and treasure hunts – exploring the bush or garden on scavenger hunts, collecting natural items, noticing textures, colours, and sounds, and practising teamwork and observation skills.
🧘🏼♀️ Yoga and dance sessions – moving their bodies, stretching, balancing, and dancing to music to support gross motor skills, coordination, body awareness, and emotional regulation.
🎲 Group games – such as “Duck, Duck, Goose,” “What’s the Time Mr Wolf?” or memory games, encouraging listening, following rules, and learning to win and lose kindly.
💬 Circle time chats – reflecting on the day, practising listening, sharing ideas, and building confidence speaking in front of others.
Every activity is thoughtfully designed to provide natural opportunities for children to practise key social communication skills, including initiating and maintaining conversations, expressing needs and feelings, collaborating with peers, and navigating group dynamics.
Our holiday group offers a supportive and inclusive environment where children can connect with others, try new experiences, and grow their communication skills - all while having a great time.
